Endgame for the FY 2009 Budget?

Illinois has started a second straight fiscal year without a finalized budget. The story began on February 20, when the Governor presented his FY 2009 budget proposal, which stressed the need for capital funding and included important increases in education, child care, and other programs critical to the well-being of children and families. The budget proposal contained a General Funds shortfall of $1.7 billion and did not include specific measures for closing this deficit.  Download and read report
