Tell Congress: Help working families!

Contact your congressman and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Roland Burris today!

Congress will return to Washington in mid-November. Let’s remind them what's at stake and urge them to do the right thing: Extend successful job-creation and tax-cut policies that help struggling families.

Encourage them to vote for extensions of:

• Improvements in the Earned Income and Child Tax Credits, which have targeted extra assistance to hundreds of thousands of working families in our state,

• Only those federal tax cuts targeted at low- and middle-income families
and

. The TANF Emergency Contingency Fund, which has helped create more than 30,000 jobs in Illinois.

Struggling families will not fare well without the tax credit improvements and the TANF Emergency Contingency Fund that soon expire as part of the American Recovery and Relief Act. It’s still vitally important that we help jobless Illinoisans to find work when it’s scarce – and that our federal tax code reward the hard work of those who need help most.

Tax cuts approved in 2001 and 2003 will expire soon. We can’t afford to maintain expensive tax cuts for the very wealthiest 2 percent of households, but low- and middle-income families can’t afford to lose their tax cuts.
