Illinois' tax structure is outdated and causes hardship for many families. Lower-income households pay a greater percentage of their income in state and local taxes than wealthier households. And the tax system doesn't raise enough revenue to adequately fund education, health care, human services and other critical supports children need to succeed.

The Budget & Tax Policy Initiative at Voices for Illinois Children provides information and analysis on spending and revenue topics that directly impact the lives of children and families. As part of the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative and the Economic Analysis and Research Network, Voices is broadening public participation in the debate over state fiscal priorities.

Contact your legislator and the Governor about the need to reform state revenues and ensure that they are adequate, fair and stable.
