PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Families' voices are essential in developing effective programs and policies for children and families. But many parents feel they lack the leadership skills and knowledge to be part of the decision-making process.

What Voices for Illinois Children is Doing

Voices President Kathy Ryg co-chairs the Family, Youth and Community Engagement Committee for the Illinois P-20 Council. The P-20 Council is a statewide coordinating body composed of government officials, business executives, university administrators, and other leaders in the education community. This diverse group is charged with the responsibility of making recommendations at all levels of education in Illinois.

The purpose of the Family, Youth and Community Engagement Committee is to raise awareness about issues and proposed recommendation of the P-20 Council, give families, youth and communities a voice in deliberations and recommendations, and make recommendations to the P-20 Council on building better collaboration and integration of families, youth and communities in education at all levels.
