KIDS COUNT

Voices for Illinois Children's annual Illinois Kids Count data reports examine the quality of life facing children and families in every county. The county-level and statewide statistics demonstrate trends, illustrate needs and support policy proposals. By providing these measures of child well-being, Kids Count aims to enrich discussions about ways to ensure better futures for all children.

The Illinois Kids Count 2009 data book reported that Illinois children face complex learning challenges due to education disparities across the state, particularly with respect to school resources and student achievements. Read the Illinois Kids Count 2009 press release for the highlights.

Kids Count Data Center

The Kids Count Data Center is an online, searchable database with state- and county-level indicators on children's well-being. The powerful database allows you to create customized tables, graphs and maps. View Illinois' profile on the Data Center.

National KIDS COUNT

Voices for Illinois Children is part of a national and state effort to track the status of children by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The Foundation publishes an annual, national KIDS COUNT data book. The 2009 KIDS COUNT Data Book essay examines the country's progress in keeping track of children's well-being, measuring the impact of public programs, and holding ourselves accountable for improving their futures.  To see how Illinois fares:

Voices has published Illinois Kids Count reports since 1992 with generous funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
