SCHIP Reauthorization: Rhetoric, Reality, and Implications for Illinois

On October 3, 2007, President Bush vetoed legislation that would reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). For several months, the Bush Administration has sharply criticized pending SCHIP reauthorization bills, claiming that Congress was considering a “massive expansion of government health care” that would create a “new entitlement program for higher income households” and would be a “step toward federalization of health care.” Download and read report
